I'm Furious!

It's been a while since I have posted anything but something happened today that compelled me to come out of hibernation.

I don't know if you all remember all the controversy surrounding Disney and their disgruntled animators back in the 90's. You know, the rerelease of The Little Mermaid because the castle on the cover was inappropriate? Editors were working overtime and stores pulling videos off the shelves left and right.

Well, something slipped by the editors of one of my son's favorite shows on Nick, Jr. As we were watching Go, Diego, Go!, Diego needed to help Willie the Duck find his family. As his camera, Click, zoomed out so we could see where his family was, I was intrigued by the detail the animators put into the side of the mountain, especially since the preceding episode of Dora the Explorer required that she scale a mountain that was much less detailed. As I sat there watching with BP, my eyes widened in shock. I instantly rewound the DVR and paused on the scene of Click showing the mountain. I stared at the screen in disbelief and couldn't do
anything other than grab my phone and take a picture of my television.

Do you see it? There are two "issues" here. The first one was so obvious to me the second I saw it. The other had to be pointed out to me.

So how does someone handle a situation like this? I mean, this is a show that is specifically for kids. I'm so frustrated about this that I don't even want BP watching his favorite show! What are your opinions?

Who Doesn't Want Free Shoes?

If you raised your hand, click the little red "X" in the top right hand corner and gett off my blog!

OK, seriously, I love shoes. I don't know any woman who doesn't. And I'm always looking for a great deal because, well, I'm broke. As in poor. As in, I'm lucky I even have shoes in the first place. So for me, Uggs are out of the question. In fact, I have a pair of "f"Uggs that I got for like $30. They're a'ight. For "f"Uggs. But I really want a pair of real Uggs. But unless they come with a free divorce attorney, I won't be buying a pair. So that's why I entered to win a pair over at Whooga. Seriously? Free Uggs?!? It's all me! Plus, once you enter, you're automatically entered EVERY MONTH! Ugh! I hope I win! So what are you waiting for? GO! ENTER!

And in case you missed it, CLICK HERE!

Crayon Nibbles

In the spirit of #gno and #crayola, I'm reposting this from the archives.

This link was posted on my birth board by a member and I immediately knew that I wanted to make these for Mikael's first birthday party. I made them today and they were so easy! The hardest (read: tedious, PITA, annoying) part was peeling the paper off the crayons. Other than that, it was fun picking out which colors would go together and arranging them.

You will need:

crayons (duh!), with paper peeled off - I prefer Crayola.
mini muffin pan
oven pre-heated to 265 F

I picked out 5 colors for two nibbles. I broke each crayon into four pieces and put two in each cup. So all in all, i had two cups with 10 crayon pieces in each. Make sense? Ok, so then I put them in the oven for about 6 or 7 minutes. I took them out and let them cool a little. If the crayons aren't completely melted, don't worry. Just take a toothpick and gently press on the still formed crayons to allow the melted crayons fill the gaps. Anyway, once the pan is cool and the nibbles are firm, place the pan in the freezer for about a half hour. Once they are good and frozen, dump the pan upside down onto a towel and they should fall right out. If not, give the pan a little twist like you would an ice tray and they should pop out.

I grabbed a pack of candy bags with twist ties from the craft store and threw them in the bags.
Once you're done, you have a cheap party favor or a fun new way for your kids to be creative!

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Photobucket

Oh yeah, that's right boys and girls. It's Tuesday again! And you know what that means, don't you?!? Yup! Throw all your random thoughts together in one post and slap it up on your blog along with our cool little button (code below). And don't forget to sign Mr. Linky. All the cool kids are doing it! Then head over to see what's got Keely going random today.

I really did enjoy all the Memorial Day weekend marathons that were one TV this weekend. NCIS was on Saturday, Law & Order: Criminal Intent was on Sunday and Monday was Deadliest Catch. No, I didn't spend the whole weekend inside watching TV. But the little bit of time I did spend inside was made that much better by no shortage of excellent television viewing.

Speaking of Memorial Day weekend, I definitely ate way too much! And yet the kitchen was quite neglected. I do love the spring and summer time and all the grilling that goes along with it! Have you ever noticed how much tastier food is when you grill it? Nom nom nom!

Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He turned the big five-oh. And I must admit, he's a rather dashing 50 year old! Here he is 3 years ago on my wedding day. We had lots of food and lots of fun! It's always enjoyable hanging out at my dad's house. We just sit out on the patio and talk. Of course if I were able to have a glass of that delightful looking sangria, I would have been even happier. Happy Birthday, Dad!

Have you ever noticed how you crave the few things that you can't have when you're pregnant? Like margaritas? I have had way too much lemonade in my feeble attempts to satisfy my craving! But Rita's has come to the rescue! They now have a strawberry margarita ice flavor. Nom!

And finally, I only have 3 and a half weeks until maternity leave! Let the countdown begin!!!

Your turn!

And Mr. Linky's website isn't working so you'll just have to leave your link in a comment. Boo.

The Baby Bump

Any mom will tell you that being pregnant definitely has it's advantages and it's disadvantages.

Advantages range from prime parking at the baby store and doctor's office to not having to carry the laundry basket up the basement steps.

Of course we all know the disadvantages. Morning sickness, aches, food aversions, food restrictions, clothing issues, etc. And of course as our pregancy progresses, we have that baby bump. I'm convinced that people don't call it a bump because that's what it looks like. No, they call it a bump because that's what it does. It's bumps. Everything. Next time you're 8 months pregnant, try reaching into that kitchen cabinet. Take notice of how many times your belly bumps into the counter. Or how much room it takes up when your 2 year old wants to sit on your lap. It just gets in the way. Sure it's cute! And it lets the world know that you're expecting a bundle of joy in the near future. But it's not always easy to work around.

Which leads me to the entertainment portion of this post.

Last week BK and I decided to order a pizza. We were already out so we called it in for a pick up. BK was driving and we had BP in the back, so I just ran in to get the pizza. I came back out to the car and handed the pizza to BK to hold while I got in. I sat down, got my seatbelt on and he handed it back to me. Then I went to put the pizza in my lap for the ride home. It didn't fit. Oh yes, that's right. There wasn't enough space between my belly and the dash for the pizza box.

Once BK got done laughing at me, he placed it in the back seat. Then he laughed the rest of the way home. I can't wait until July!

What Makes a Good Friend?

I really want to know the answer to this question. Because I always thought it was about how well you connect with a person, how well you get along, common interests and such. But all that was thrown out the window when I ventured into the grocery store this morning.

I only needed to get a few things. It was a simple in and out trip that quickly turned into inspiration. As I was searching for my Zesta saltine crackers (because those are just simply the best, without a doubt), I saw a rather large woman walking down the aisle. She was wearing a zebra print mu-mu top with black paint on her legs leggings. The first thought that ran through my mind was how I try so feebly to cover up my little muffin top (when I'm not pregnant) but this lady has no problem wearing clothes that accentuate every curve, every roll, every bulge on her body. I admire that kind of confidence. I also wondered who she lived with that would let her out of the house in that much zebra print. But that's a whole other post.

While perplexing, that wasn't what inspired this post. What really caught my attention was the big, white, powdery area right on her crotch/ass area. Now, before you go wondering why I was staring at her crotch, please note that these were black pants and this spot was bright white. The Three Blind Mice would have been able to see it. It looked like she had baby-powdered her "self" and then threw her pants on. To each her own. Whatever. But I want to know why her friend, who was there shopping with her, didn't tell her what was going on.

All I know is that any one of my friends would have told me. They would have laughed their asses off at me, told me, laughed some more and then brought it up in conversation at every get-together from then until the day I die, but they would have told me nonetheless. Now that, I believe, is what makes a good friend. Think about it. Would you rather have a friend who you have a lot in common with? Or someone who will let you know when you're making an ass out of yourself? And yes, that pun was totally intended.

Random Tuesday Tidbits

You read the title right. I didn't do it by accident. Today I will enlighten you with random tidbits about myself. Not that you care but I will subject you to them anyway. So stop bitching.

My mother in law once tried to kill me. Seriously. Last Mother's Day we were at her brother's house where her father has a vegetable garden. He grows lots of tomatoes so there is never a shortage. Well, I made it known to her that in my (then) 26 years, I had never, ever had a raw tomato. Tomato sauce, yes. Ketchup, yes. Tomato, no. So she gave me a cherry tomato and convinced me to try it. I hated it. And so did my body. I broke out in little hives all over the place. It was aweful but to this day we still joke about how she tried to kill me.

Speaking of things that I have never had, BK conviced me to try a cherry for the first time in my 27 years. Yes, it's true. Until Sunday I had never eaten a cherry. Cherry flavored things, yes, but never a cherry. And I liked it. And it didn't nearly kill me. And guess what. Cherries actually taste like those cherry flavored food items. Or is it the other way around?

I'm a procrastinator. That's probably why this post is going up so late. And this is something that I actually LIKE doing. So you can imagine what it's like when I really don't want to do something. It NEVER gets done!

I'm a closet neat freak but I'm too lazy to do anything about it. I hate cleaning but I love the end result. I wish I could hire a cleaning lady.

Your turn!

Keurig: An Unsolicited Review

We have had a coffee issue in our house for a while now.  BK likes his coffee like tar very strong and I prefer a milder coffee.  I also enjoy the occasional flavored coffee.  BK cringes, makes faces and lets out a very toddler-esque "eeewww!" whenever I make a pot.  In addition to that, I have been drinking decaf during my pregnancy.  Of course BK would never let decaf cross his lips.  So needless to say, we were making more than one pot of coffee every day.  And much of it went to waste.

Stacy from Stacy's Random Thoughts posted a while back about how she got her husband a Keurig.  Ever since I read her review I just had to have one started thinking about maybe getting one.  The timing was perfect because Mother's Day was coming up and this would be a fabulous solution to our problem.  So I told BK that getting me one was in his best interest subtly hinted to BK that I wanted one.

I found a reasonable deal on the "Ultimate" at BJ's Wholesale Club.  It was only $120.00 and it came with 88 free K-Cups.  If you bought a Keurig from another retailer or online, it only came with 18 K-Cups.  This was 70 more!  Plus, the "Ultimate" was pretty much the "Deluxe" but $10 cheaper.  I was hooked.

The resistance from BK, however, was not as subtle as my hinting.  At first he thought that it was stupid because he thought we had to order the coffee online or over the phone.  So I did a little research and found that several stores sell the K-Cups, including BJ's Wholesale Clubs and Bed Bath & Beyond.

So I told BK about this discovery.  Then he found out that a box of 80 K-Cups from BJ's would cost $35.  WHAT?!?  Apparently that was highway robbery and he would never pay that much for coffee, thankyouverymuch.  And while we're on the topic of cost, paying $120.00 for a "coffee pot" was ridiculous.  Even my argument of "and 88 cups of coffee" wasn't good enough.

He didn't consider the option of getting me my gift of choice until he realized that you can purchase a reusable filter that you can use with your own coffee.  Once he realized that having a Keurig didn't necessarily mean having to use the K-Cups, he was more open to the idea.  So off he went to BJ's to check out this "coffee pot".  Fortunately for him me, he ended up coming home with one.

We have had our Keurig for a week now and I think BK has used it more than I have.  He is the one who wants all the accessories.  He's the on who wanted to go out to Bed Bath & Beyond to take a look at all the bells and whistles as well as their coffee selection.  He has mentioned getting the reusable filter a couple of times but he's pretty much thrilled with the K-Cups.  He has even said that he doesn't want to get the bulk pack for $35 at BJ's.  He's willing to spend a little more and get the individual boxes of 18 cups so he can try the different varieties (and trust me, there is A LOT of different varieties!).  They really aren't that expensive.  About $10 per box.  It's more than you would spend on a can of Folgers but it's very much worth it.  And it's less expensive than going to the coffee shop and the coffee is MUCH better!

As for me, I have never had a better cup of coffee in my life!  Think I'm exaggerating?  Believe me, I'm not.  Now excuse me, I think I'm going to make myself a cup of coffee.
